Norts and Crosses: The Local Bookkeeper Making Numbers Make Sense

Behind the beachy calm of Inverloch is a powerhouse of financial know-how quietly helping small businesses take control of their numbers — and sleep better at night. Meet Sandy from Norts and Crosses Bookkeeping, a CPA-qualified professional with over 15 years of tax and accounting experience and a heart firmly planted in community.

After a long career in the accounting world, Sandy realised her favourite part of the job wasn’t punching numbers — it was empowering small business owners to understand them. So she took a leap and launched Norts and Crosses Bookkeeping, choosing to base herself in the seaside town she loves. Her office, tucked behind Offshore Surf School, opened its doors with freshly printed signage — and the clients followed.

“From the beginning,” Sandy says, “I knew I’d made the right decision.”

Now Norts and Crosses is known as the bookkeeping service that makes bookkeeping make sense. As QuickBooks Online specialists, Sandy and her team have built a reputation for taking the stress out of EOFY, BAS, payroll, and everything in between. Their clients range from local tradies and creatives to national businesses — because Norts and Crosses can work remotely with clients all over Australia.

In Sandy’s words: “They say you can’t buy time — but you can hire me, and that’s basically the same thing.”

Tax time advice? She’s got plenty. Don’t rush to lodge your tax return on July 1 — your employer has until July 14 to finalise your income statement. If you work outside, remember you can claim sun protection (think sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses). And no, your Nespresso machine doesn’t count as a deductible, even if it fuels your 9–5 grind. Most importantly? Monthly bookkeeping is your stress-free friend. “Don’t wait until June to look at your numbers,” Sandy advises. “And always keep your receipts.”

Clients love her for it. Kristy from Be Seen Communications describes Sandy as a “bookkeeping rockstar… a complete asset to any person or business who finds bookkeeping a headache.”

But Sandy isn’t just helping businesses thrive — she’s also giving back. As the Treasurer of the Inverloch Tourism Association, she generously volunteers her time, experience, and skill to support tourism and local business development. “I love Inverloch,” she says. “And I want to be a part of building a stronger community.”

Her final piece of advice? “Nothing says ‘I’m serious about growing my business’ like investing in a bookkeeper who helps you understand your numbers. That knowledge is power.”

Norts and Crosses Bookkeeping offers free 30-minute chats to see where things stand — and how they can help give you peace of mind… and a good night’s sleep.

Version 2- just as a q&A

Meet Sandy from Norts and Crosses Bookkeeping: Helping Small Businesses Make Sense of Their Numbers

Q: What inspired you to start Norts and Crosses Bookkeeping?
After 15 years working in tax and accounting, I realised what I loved most was helping small businesses be profitable, sustainable, and — most importantly — actually understand their numbers. I wanted to focus on the people behind the business, not just the paperwork.

Q: Why did you choose Inverloch?
I live in Inverloch and absolutely love it here — the beach, the pace, the people. When I found the perfect little office behind the Offshore Surf School, I took the plunge. I printed my signs, opened the doors, and the clients came. I knew I’d made the right decision.

Q: What’s Norts and Crosses known for?
We make bookkeeping make sense. We're known for being QuickBooks Online experts, and for taking the stress out of tax time. We’re also big believers in monthly bookkeeping — it’s your best tool for avoiding financial surprises. And yes, we can work with clients all over Australia.

Q: What sets you apart?
Everything we do is about being helpful and human. People often tell us that hiring us feels like buying back their time — and that’s the goal! We want you to feel in control, not overwhelmed.

Q: What tax time tips do you have for small business owners?
Don’t rush your return — your employer has until July 14 to finalise your income statement. If you work outdoors, you can claim sun protection items like sunscreen and sunglasses. And no, sadly, your Nespresso machine doesn’t count as a deductible — even if it powers your day! Also: keep your receipts and don’t wait until June to look at your numbers.

Q: What do your clients say about you?
One of my favourites is from Kristy at Be Seen Communications:
"Sandy is a bookkeeping rockstar. As a CPA, she brings so much expertise to any person or business who finds bookkeeping a complete headache! Sandy knows all the rules and will definitely be an asset to your operation."

Q: You also volunteer your time — can you tell us about that?
I currently volunteer as Treasurer for the Inverloch Tourism Association. It’s a way to give back to this town I love and to support the local business community. I think it’s important to be involved.

Q: Final words for small business owners?
Nothing says “I’m serious about growing my business” like investing in a bookkeeper. Understanding your numbers gives you confidence and clarity — and we offer a free 30-minute chat to help you get started. Sleep better knowing your books are in good hands.
