Looking for a new reason to visit Inverloch or Wonthaggi?

From 2pm on Friday 19 June, visitors and locals alike will be able to experience the long-awaited Inverloch to Wonthaggi Trail, a spectacular new 14-kilometre shared pathway connecting two of Bass Coast's most loved towns.

Less than two hours from Melbourne, this exciting new trail creates even more opportunities to explore the region on foot, by bike or with four-legged friends and the kids in tow.

Stretching from the Inverloch Surf Life Saving Club through to the Bass Coast Rail Trail in Wonthaggi, the trail meanders through scenic farmland, pockets of native bushland and peaceful rural landscapes, offering a completely different perspective of the region.

The beauty of the trail is its flexibility.

Start in Inverloch and finish in Wonthaggi. Begin in Wonthaggi and head towards the coast. Tackle the full 14 kilometres or simply enjoy a shorter section before returning to your starting point.

Whether you're a keen cyclist, casual walker, jogging enthusiast, dog owner, nature lover or family looking for an outdoor adventure, the trail offers something for everyone.

Even better, the journey doesn't end when the trail does.

Visitors can spend the morning exploring Inverloch's beaches, cafes and shops before setting off on their adventure. Others may choose to begin in Wonthaggi, discover its heritage attractions, eateries and retail precinct, then enjoy the ride or walk towards the coast.

The trail creates a wonderful opportunity to experience both towns in one day, encouraging visitors to stay longer and explore more of what Bass Coast has to offer.

Designed as a safe, off-road shared pathway, the project includes a mixture of gravel and concrete surfaces, boardwalk sections, rest areas, signage and improved pedestrian connections along the route.

Importantly, it also forms part of the broader regional trail network, creating future opportunities for even longer cycling and walking adventures throughout Bass Coast.

For walking groups, cycling clubs and active travellers, the Inverloch to Wonthaggi Trail adds another compelling reason to plan a getaway to the region.

For locals, it provides a beautiful new recreational asset right on the doorstep.

And for visitors discovering Inverloch for the first time, it offers something many destinations can't: the chance to experience stunning coastal landscapes, rolling countryside and two vibrant regional communities all in a single adventure.

A few practical tips before you set off: there are currently no toilet facilities along the trail itself, so plan ahead and carry water, particularly if undertaking the full journey.

The countdown is now on.

So lace up the walking shoes, pump up the bike tyres, clip on the lead and get ready to discover one of Bass Coast's newest adventures.

The Inverloch to Wonthaggi Trail officially opens from 2pm on Friday 19 June. Book your coastal getaway and prepare to explore the trail.
