Sand Dune Planting at the Inverloch Surf Life Saving Club

Everyone is invited at 10 o’clock on Saturday August 22nd to the Inverloch Surf Life Saving Club to plant the sand dune around the Surf Club and enjoy a BBQ afterwards. Wear your sturdy work and footwear. Prepare for a robust day in a beautiful place with sun, cold, wind and rain expected but not guaranteed.

The Inverloch Surf Life Saving Club is hosting a post event BBQ and the South Gippsland Conservation Society will guide the planting.

The sandbag walls have been installed and the sand has been pumped, the brushing has been cut, transported and delivered and now it’s time for the plants. We will plant 1000 nursery raised plants on the day. The brush and plants will help reduce the amount of windblown sand covering the tracks and getting into the Inverloch Surf Life Saving Club building.

Our planting will be the first in a planned multiyear dune vegetation management program funded by the State and the Bass Coast Shire Council. A further 19,000 plants have been raised by local nurseries and are ready for planting. Through 2026 they will be planted into the dunes in locations most favourable for plant survival and growth between Ozone Street and Wreck Creek.

This will be a fantastic opportunity to see firsthand the results of a decade’s work initiated by the South Gippsland Conservation Society and supported by the community through the Inverloch Surf Life Saving Club and the Inverloch Tourism Association.
