Dinosaur Discovery at The Caves, Inverloch

Explore ancient rock platforms, discover dinosaur-era wonders, hunt for fossils and learn from an experienced palaeontologist on Inverloch’s spectacular coast.

Join South Gippsland Conservation Society and an experienced palaeontologist from Bunurong Coast Education to discover the Bass Coast’s dinosaur history. Visit The Caves to see a dinosaur footprint, ancient earthquake fault lines and petrified trees, then break rocks at Wallace Avenue Community Park and keep any fossils you find.

Tickets and age guidance

Every attendee requires a ticket, including accompanying adults, children, infants and children under five. Tickets for infants and children under five are free. The activity is suitable for school-aged children, teenagers and adults; children under 16 must be accompanied by a ticket-holding supervising adult.

What to bring

Bring sturdy footwear suitable for wet and slippery rock platforms, weather-appropriate clothing, a hat, sunscreen and water. Rock-breaking hammers are supplied, or you may bring your own. Participants need their own transport between the Bunurong Environment Centre, The Caves and Wallace Avenue Community Park.

Bookings and weather

Bookings close one hour before the event, but early booking is recommended. Join the waitlist if your preferred ticket category or session is unavailable. The activity proceeds in drizzle but may be cancelled if conditions are unsafe; ticket holders will be emailed and refunded if organisers cancel.
