Ride the Roads. Change the Future of Sight.
There’s something powerful about a long ride through Gippsland. Rolling green hills. Open farmland. Coastal air filling your lungs. Now imagine that every kilometre helps protect someone’s vision.
The 32nd Lions Ride for Sight, led by Lions Club District 201V3 (Gippsland), is a 3.5 day charity cycling event raising funds for Lions Eye Health Programs, particularly the Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA). CERA conducts life changing research into preventing avoidable blindness, including age related macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts and diabetic retinopathy.
Since its inception, the first 31 rides have raised over $3.2 million. This year’s target is $100,000 and every rider, donor and supporter makes a difference.
The 325km journey runs from March 19 to March 22, starting and finishing in Longwarry and travelling through Drouin, Churchill, Leongatha, Inverloch, Cape Paterson, Wonthaggi, Kernot, Lang Lang and beyond. Riders will tackle 2,883 metres of climbing through the Bass and Strzelecki Hills, a true Gippsland challenge.
Registrations to ride are still open BUT close Friday February 27. If the full ride feels daunting, “Ride with a Difference” offers a flexible four week option to ride your own distances and routes while fundraising.
Riders will stay at the Lions and Scouts Club Recreation Reserve on Friday March 20, arriving around 4pm and departing at 8:30am the following morning. Pop by, cheer them on, have a chat and consider making a donation.
Register, donate, or simply show your support. It’s a wonderful cause driven by passionate Lions Club volunteers, supported locally by the Inverloch Scouts and Inverloch Community Bank - Bendigo Bank.
Every turn of the wheel helps protect the gift of sight
