Disabled surfing events- Inverloch
January 17th and Feb 14th, Inverloch Surf Beach will once again come alive with one of the most uplifting community events on the Bass Coast β a Disability Surfing Day celebrating inclusion, connection and the joy of riding waves.
Now in its 10th year, the event is part of a national network of 17 disability surfing organisations across Australia. Locally, the Bass Coast Disability Surfers Association brings together an incredible team of volunteers to help people of all abilities experience the ocean in a safe, supportive environment.
On the day, more than 50 surfers with disability will be assisted by volunteer teams using specialised surfboards, beach wheelchairs and carefully coordinated water corridors. Each surfing session runs for three hours, with six teams positioned along the beach to ensure every participant receives the support they need to feel confident and safe.
The event is completely volunteer-run and relies on around 120β200 volunteers to make it happen. Whether youβre keen to help in the water or prefer a land-based role, there are plenty of ways to be involved β including food preparation, logistics, merchandise and administration. Volunteers are looked after with lunch, snacks, water and sunscreen provided.
