Creating a Better Visitor Experience
A New Chapter for Eagles Nest: Creating a Better Visitor Experience
One of Bass Coast's most spectacular natural landmarks is about to become even better.
Works are now underway to create a new, sustainable viewing platform at Eagles Nest on the breathtaking Bunurong coastline within the Yallock-Bulluk Marine and Coastal Park. The project will improve visitor safety, protect the fragile coastal environment and provide an even more memorable way to experience one of the region's most photographed landscapes.
For some time, the Inverloch Tourism Association, South Gippsland Conservation Society and members of the local community have advocated for improvements at Eagles Nest. As vegetation changed and invasive species increasingly obscured the view, visitors began creating their own informal viewpoints, often damaging sensitive coastal vegetation and putting themselves at unnecessary risk.
The new lookout has been carefully designed to address these challenges by creating a safer, more sustainable viewing experience while protecting this remarkable stretch of coastline for future generations.
The project forms part of a broader program of coastal upgrades funded through the Victoria's Great Outdoors initiative, investing in some of Victoria's most treasured natural places.
What Visitors Need to Know
While construction is underway, the Eagles Nest lookout is closed, with works expected to continue into Spring 2026.
The good news is that visitors can still enjoy the area.
The Eagles Nest car park remains open, and beach access continues via the existing walking track from the car park.
From time to time, there will be short temporary closures of the car park to allow large construction materials to be delivered safely. These closures will be advertised by Parks Victoria in advance.
If you're visiting during construction, please follow all temporary signage and any directions provided on site. To stay up to date with latest information about the works please head to Parks Victoria website- link below.
Looking Ahead
Eagles Nest has long been one of the must-see experiences for visitors exploring Inverloch and the Bunurong Coast.
When complete, the new viewing platform will provide an even better opportunity to appreciate the dramatic coastline while helping protect the unique environment that makes this place so special.
It's an investment in the future, ensuring that generations of locals and visitors alike can continue to enjoy one of Bass Coast's most iconic coastal views.
