‍ ‍🌿 Explore the Living Wonders of Screw Creek

‍ ‍Presented by: Bunurong Environment Centre

Experience a guided exploration of the dynamic estuarine environment of Screw Creek at Anderson’s Inlet, Inverloch. This unique coastal area is home to a rich diversity of habitats including coastal scrub, open woodlands, mangroves, saltmarsh and mudflats.

Anderson’s Inlet is a significant ecological site, supporting wading birds, fish breeding areas, and endangered species such as the Orange-bellied Parrot. Estuaries are among the most productive natural habitats on Earth, shaped by tides, waves, freshwater flows and sediment movement—and this event offers a rare opportunity to experience one up close.

Participants will have the chance to use mist nets to sample some of the incredible creatures that inhabit Screw Creek, including beetles, aquatic insects, crabs, worms, and the ever-popular snapping shrimp. Despite being only a few centimetres long, snapping shrimp have an oversized claw capable of producing a powerful snap—an unforgettable highlight of the day.
